Throughout each boy’s stay, we engage them constantly as someone they can talk to freely, making therapy non-threatening and ongoing in a more natural environment. Residents spend a lot of their free time fishing, playing sports, and just learning how to have wholesome fun again.
We start right away with physical exercise to bring boys up to a standard level of fitness. They gain muscle, their self-respect improves, and they experience something positive as they begin to meet fitness goals. Those achievements carry over into other areas. In work projects and vocational skills and even in their education, their accomplishments bolster confidence so that boys are built up.
MRCA goes beyond trqditional boarding schools in that it helps boys to mentally realize the ramifications of bad actions. Their thinking clears and their destructive behavior disappears, replaced with character and integrity. Master’s Ranch gives boys a reason to succeed.
We have qualified teachers on our personnel who offer instruction and one-on-one tutoring attention to the students. At Master’s Ranch, we accomplish both ends of the academic spectrum. The self-paced curriculum allows students who may be struggling with certain subjects to accomplish them and catch up. Advanced coursework and college-prep programs are available for those who excel academically and desire to get ahead.
Our boarding academy operates year-round, to keep students involved and to give them the chance to catch up or retake courses and improve their grade point average. During normal summer break we run a shortened academic regimen to allow time for projects, sports and recreation.
After the boys are at the ranch for a time, they have opportunities for vocational experience in the local economy. It allows them to try out their new coping skills and to earn money to help them once they leave the ranch. The wage they earn is put into an account that they withdraw when they leave. The ranch itself also offers some vocational opportunities for the young men to learn from, including handling the cattle, construction, pedigree dog breeding, and farming. The boys are trained marketable skills and self-confidence from these endeavors.
Residents take part in regular devotions and weekly church services, so they have opportunities to ask questions about life and discover a relationship with Jesus. We offer biblical counseling and life-on-life mentoring and spiritual guidance.
