They gain strength, they feel good about themselves, and they experience a positive achievement as they begin to see progress in their fitness goals. Those achievements carry over into other areas. In work projects and vocational skills and even in their education, their accomplishments develop confidence so that boys are built up.

Their thinking straightens out and their destructive behavior turns into character and integrity. Teens at Master’s Ranch have a reason to succeed.

Academic Training

ranch for reforming boysWe have excellent teachers on our personnel who provide instruction and one-on-one tutoring assistance to the students. At Master’s Ranch, we accommodate both ends of the academic spectrum. The flexible curriculum allows students who may be having difficulty with certain courses to accomplish them and catch up. Advanced coursework and college-prep programs are available for those who succeed academically and desire to get ahead.

Our boarding school operates year-round, to keep students engaged and to give them the opportunity to catch up or retake courses and improve their grade point average. All summer we run a half-day academic regimen to allow time for projects, sports and recreation.

Vocational Training

It allows them to exercise their new coping skills and to earn money to help them once they leave the ranch. Every dime they earn is put into a fund that they take home with them when they leave.  The ranch itself also provides some vocational opportunities for the young men to learn from, including handling the cattle, construction, pedigree dog breeding, and farming. The boys are trained marketable skills and a real sense of accomplishment from these endeavors.

Known as the world’s traditional automotive center, “Detroit” is a metonym for the American automobile industry and an important source of popular music legacies celebrated by the city’s two familiar nicknames, the Motor City and Motown. Other nicknames arose in the 20th century, including City of Champions beginning in the 1930s for its successes in individual and team sport, The D, D-Town, Hockeytown (a trademark owned by the city’s NHL club, the Red Wings), Rock City (after the Kiss song “Detroit Rock City”), and The 313 (its telephone area code) Detroit became known as the “great arsenal of democracy” for its support of the U.S. role among the Allied powers during World War II.

The Detroit area emerged as a metropolitan region with construction of an extensive freeway system in the 1950s and 1960s which has expanded in ensuing decades. Freeways and transit systems have facilitated movement throughout the region with millions of people taking up residence in the suburbs. Between 2000 and 2010, the city’s population fell by 25%, from the nation’s 10th largest city to 18th. Commensurate with the shift of population and jobs to its suburbs, the city has had to adjust its role within the larger metropolitan area.
