Throughout each boy’s stay, we engage them constantly as a friend they can talk to freely, making therapy non-threatening and ongoing in a more natural environment. We value education as a privilege, and we teach boys to think about it in the same way.
Boys spend a great deal of their free time camping, playing sports, and just learning how to have healthy fun again.
We begin with physical exercise to bring boys up to a minimum level of fitness. They develop strength, their self-respect improves, and they gain something positive as they begin to see progress in their fitness goals. The same concepts also work well in other areas. In work projects and vocational skills and even in academics, their accomplishments build confidence so that boys are built up.
MRCA goes beyond trqditional boarding schools in that it helps young men to mentally realize the consequences of bad actions. Their thinking straightens out and their inappropriate behavior disappears, replaced with character and integrity. Master’s Ranch gives boys a reason to succeed.
We have qualified teachers on our personnel who provide instruction and one-on-one tutoring attention to the students. At Master’s Ranch, we accommodate both ends of the academic spectrum. The flexible curriculum allows students who may be struggling with certain courses to master them and catch up. Advanced coursework and a college-prep programs are available for those who excel academically and wish to get ahead.
Our residential academic program operates year-round, to keep students engaged and to give them the chance to catch up or retake courses and improve their grade point average. During the summers we run a shortened academic schedule to allow time for projects, sports and recreation.
Boys who have improved their actions and have become trustworthy are given a chance for vocational experience in the local economy. It allows them to try out their new coping skills and to earn money to help them once they leave the ranch. The wage they earn is put into an account that they withdraw when they leave. The ranch itself also provides some industries for the boys young men to learn from, including handling the cattle, construction, pedigree dog breeding, and farming. The boys gain marketable skills and a self-confidence from these opportunities.
Teens take part in regular devotions and weekly church services, so they have opportunities to ask questions about God and discover a relationship with Jesus. We give group and individual counseling and life-on-life mentorship and spiritual direction.
