Master’s Ranch is a new home for adolescent boys from places like Troy, Michigan, who need proper direction to change the course of their lives. Parents bring their boys, age 12-17, to Master’s Ranch after seeing them begin a downward spiral which cannot be stopped by counseling alone.
Boys from Troy, Michigan come to our boarding school to live in a structured environment, learning respect for authority and personal responsibility through a renewed focus on faith, caring for themselves and their future, and through caring for the animals on our ranch. We value education as a privilege, and we teach boys to think about it in the same way.
Boys spend a lot of their free time outdoors, playing sports, and generally learning how to have wholesome fun again.
We begin with physical training with the goal of bringing boys up to a standard level of fitness. They gain strength, their self-respect improves, and they experience something positive as they begin to meet fitness goals. The same concepts also work well in other areas. In work projects and vocational skills and even in school, their accomplishments develop confidence so that boys are built up.
MRCA goes beyond trqditional boarding schools in that it helps boys to mentally realize the ramifications of bad choices. Their thinking clears and their destructive behavior disappears, replaced with character and integrity. Master’s Ranch gives boys a reason to succeed.
We have excellent teachers on our personnel who provide instruction and one-on-one tutoring assistance to the students. At Master’s Ranch, we accommodate both ends of the academic spectrum. The self-paced curriculum allows students who may be having difficulty with certain courses to master them and catch up. Advanced coursework and a college-prep programs are available for those who excel academically and wish to get ahead.
Our residential academic program operates year-round, to keep students involved and to give them the opportunity to catch up or retake courses and improve their grade point average. All summer we run a shortened academic schedule to allow time for projects, sports and recreation.
Boys who have improved their actions and have become trustworthy are given a chance for work experience in the local economy. It allows them to exercise their new coping skills and to earn money to help them once they leave the ranch. The wage they earn is put into an account that they withdraw when they go home. The ranch itself also offers some industries for the boys young men to learn from, including handling the cattle, construction, pedigree dog breeding, and farming. The boys are trained marketable skills and a self-confidence from these endeavors.
Boys participate in daily devotions and weekly church services, so they have opportunities to ask questions about God and experience a relationship with Jesus. We offer pastoral counseling and person-to-person mentoring and spiritual direction.
