If your could use someone to confide in who will listen to him and guide him without judgment, we are here to help. We provide therapy throughout the week, both individual and also group counseling sessions.

Throughout each boy’s stay, we engage them constantly as a friend they can talk to freely, making therapy non-threatening and ongoing and in a more natural environment. We maintain a watchful eye, especially at the start, but we do so while giving them loving care and encouraging them toward a personal relationship with God. We are set up like a family, loving these boys no matter what and walking through the days beside them, coaching and teaching them.

DSCN0609Designed to Offer Boys from South Dakota a New Direction in Life

Master’s Ranch is a home away from home for boys from other states like South Dakota, who need proper direction to make a new start for themselves. Parents bring their boys, age 12-17, to Master’s Ranch after learning that they’ve begun to get in trouble and headed on a downward spiral which cannot be stopped by counseling alone.

Boys at MRCA spend a great deal of their weekends and free time hunting, playing sports, and generally learning how to have good clean fun again. They are brought to our boarding school to live in a structured environment, learning respect for authority and personal responsibility through a renewed focus on faith, caring for themselves and their future, and through caring for the animals on our ranch. We treat education as a privilege, and we teach boys to think about it in the same way.

Adventure and Physical Outlets are Important in our Boarding School for Boys

We start right away with physical training with the goal of bringing boys up to a standard level of fitness. They build muscle, their self-respect improves, and they experience a positive achievement as they begin to see progress in their fitness goals. Those achievements carry over into other areas. In work projects and vocational skills and even in their education, their achievements build confidence so that boys are built up.

Academic Training for Boys from South Dakota

We have excellent teachers on staff who provide instruction and one-on-one tutoring attention to the students. At Master’s Ranch, we focus on both ends of the academic spectrum. The flexible curriculum allows students who may be struggling with certain subjects to accomplish them and catch up. Advanced coursework and a college-prep programs are available for those who excel academically and desire to get ahead.

Our boarding academy operates year-round, to keep students involved and to give them the opportunity to catch up or retake courses and improve their grade point average. During normal summer break we run a shortened academic schedule to allow time for projects, sports and recreation.

Helping Boys Understand Boundaries

MRCA goes beyond traditional boarding schools in that it helps boys to mentally comprehend the consequences of bad actions. Their thinking clears and their destructive behavior is replaced with character and integrity. Master’s Ranch gives boys a reason to succeed.

Boys who have improved their actions and have become trustworthy are given a chance for vocational experience in the local economy. It allows them to try out their new coping skills and to earn money to help them once they leave the ranch. The wage they earn is put into a fund that they withdraw when they go home. The ranch itself also provides some vocational opportunities for the boys young men to learn from, including handling the cattle, construction, pedigree dog breeding, and farming. The boys gain marketable skills and a self-confidence from these opportunities.

Where Spiritual Training Leads to Improved Behaviors in Boys

Boys take part in daily devotions and weekly church services, so they have opportunities to ask questions about God and choose a relationship with Jesus. We provide group and individual counseling and person-to-person mentorship and spiritual direction.

More about boarding schools  for boys in South Dakota:

South Dakota is a state located in the Midwestern region of the United States. It is named after the Lakota and Dakota Sioux American Indian tribes. South Dakota is the 17th most extensive, but the 5th least populous and the 5th least densely populated of the 50 United States. Once the southern portion of the Dakota Territory, South Dakota became a state on November 2, 1889. Pierre is the state capital and Sioux Falls, with a population of nearly 160,000, is South Dakota’s largest city.
South Dakota is bordered by the states of North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Montana. The state is bisected by the Missouri River, dividing South Dakota into two geographically and socially distinct halves, known to residents as “East River” and “West River”.Hasselstrom, pp. 24.] Eastern South Dakota is home to most of the state’s population, and fertile soil in this area is used to grow a variety of crops. West of the Missouri, ranching is the predominant agricultural activity, and the economy is more dependent on tourism and defense spending. The Black Hills, a group of low pine-covered mountains, is located in the southwest part of the state. The Black Hills are sacred to the Sioux. Mount Rushmore, a major tourist destination, is located there. Other attractions in the southwest include Badlands and Wind Cave national parks, Custer State Park, the Crazy Horse Memorial, and historic Deadwood. South Dakota experiences a temperate continental climate, with four distinct seasons and precipitation ranging from moderate in the east to semi-arid in the west. The ecology of the state features species typical of a North American grassland biome.
Humans have inhabited the area for several millennia, with the Sioux becoming dominant by the early 19th century. In the late 19th century, European-American settlement intensified after a gold rush in the Black Hills and the construction of railroads from the east. Encroaching miners and settlers caused conflict that triggered a number of Indian Wars, ending with the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890. Key events in the 20th century included the Dust Bowl and Great Depression, increased federal spending during the 1940s and 50s for agriculture and defense, and an industrialization of agriculture which has much reduced family farming. While several Democratic senators have represented South Dakota for multiple terms at the federal level, the state government is largely dominated by the Republican Party, whose nominees have carried South Dakota in each of the most recent eleven presidential elections. Historically dominated by an agricultural economy and a rural lifestyle, South Dakota has recently sought to diversify its economy to attract and retain residents. South Dakota’s history and rural character still strongly influence the culture of the state.
