Master’s Ranch is a home away from home for teenage boys from places like Saint Paul, Minnesota, who need proper direction to change the course of their lives. Parents bring their boys, age 12-17, to Master’s Ranch after seeing them begin a downward spiral which cannot be stopped by counseling alone.
Boys from Saint Paul, Minnesota come to our boarding school to live in a structured environment, learning obedience and personal responsibility through a renewed focus on faith, caring for themselves and their future, and through caring for the animals on our ranch. We view education as a privilege, and we teach boys to view it in the same way.
Students spend a lot of their free time outdoors, playing sports, and generally learning how to enjoy good clean fun again.
We start with physical exercise with the goal of bringing boys up to a basic level of fitness. They develop strength, their self-esteem improves, and they gain a positive achievement as they begin to see progress in their fitness goals. The same concepts also work well in other areas. In work projects and vocational skills and even in school, their achievements build confidence so that boys are built up.
MRCA goes beyond trqditional boarding schools in that it helps boys to mentally understand the ramifications of bad behaviors. Their thinking clears and their inappropriate behavior is replaced with character and integrity. Master’s Ranch gives boys a reason to succeed.
We have excellent teachers on staff who offer instruction and one-on-one tutoring assistance to the students. At Master’s Ranch, we accomplish both ends of the academic spectrum. The self-paced curriculum allows students who may be having difficulty with certain subjects to accomplish them and catch up. Advanced coursework and a college-prep programs are available for those who excel academically and desire to get ahead.
Our boarding academy operates year-round, to keep students involved and to give them the chance to catch up or retake courses and improve their grade point average. All summer we run a shortened academic schedule to allow time for projects, sports and recreation.
Boys who have improved their actions and have become trustworthy are given a chance for work experience in select businesses nearby. It allows them to try out their new coping skills and to earn money to help them once they leave the ranch. The wage they earn is put into a fund that they take home with them when they leave. The ranch itself also provides some industries for the boys young men to learn from, including handling the cattle, construction, pedigree dog breeding, and farming. The boys gain marketable skills and a real sense of accomplishment from these opportunities.
Boys participate in daily devotions and weekly church services, so they have the chance to ask questions about life and choose a relationship with Jesus. We provide pastoral counseling and ongoing mentoring and spiritual direction.
