Throughout each boy’s stay, we engage them constantly as someone they can talk to freely, making therapy non-threatening and ongoing in a more natural environment. We treat education as a privilege, and we teach boys to think about it in the same way.
Students spend a lot of their free time camping, playing sports, and just learning how to have healthy fun again.
We start with physical training to bring boys up to a minimum level of fitness. They gain muscle, they have a reason to feel good about themselves, and they gain something positive as they begin to see progress in their fitness goals. The same concepts also work well in other areas. In work projects and vocational skills and even in academics, their accomplishments develop confidence so that boys are built up.
MRCA goes beyond trqditional boarding schools in that it helps boys to mentally understand the consequences of bad actions. Their thinking clears and their destructive behavior disappears, replaced with character and integrity. Master’s Ranch gives boys a reason to succeed.
We have excellent teachers on our personnel who offer instruction and one-on-one tutoring assistance to the students. At Master’s Ranch, we accommodate both ends of the academic spectrum. The self-paced curriculum allows students who may be struggling with certain courses to master them and catch up. Advanced coursework and a college-prep programs are scheduled for those who excel academically and wish to get ahead.
Our boarding academy operates year-round, to keep students engaged and to give them the opportunity to catch up or retake courses and improve their grade point average. All summer we run a partial academic schedule to allow time for projects, sports and recreation.
Boys who have improved their actions and have become trustworthy are given opportunities for vocational experience in the local economy. It allows them to try out their new coping skills and to earn money to help them once they leave the ranch. Every dollar they earn is put into a fund that they withdraw when they go home. The ranch itself also offers some industries for the boys young men to learn from, including handling the cattle, construction, pedigree dog breeding, and farming. The boys are trained marketable skills and a self-confidence from these opportunities.
Students have access to regular devotions and weekly church services, so they have the chance to ask questions about God and discover a relationship with Jesus. We offer pastoral counseling and person-to-person mentorship and spiritual direction.
