Throughout each boy’s stay, we engage them constantly as someone they can talk to freely, making therapy non-threatening and ongoing in a more natural environment. We view education as a privilege, and we teach boys to look at it in the same way.
Boys spend a lot of their weekends and free time hunting, playing sports, and generally learning how to enjoy healthy fun again.
We start right away with physical exercise with the goal of bringing boys up to a basic level of fitness. They gain muscle, their self-respect improves, and they experience a positive achievement as they begin to see progress in their fitness goals. Those achievements carry over into other areas. In work projects and vocational skills and even in their education, their positive experiences develop confidence so that boys are built up.
MRCA goes beyond trqditional boarding schools in that it helps boys to mentally realize the ramifications of bad actions. Their thinking clears and their inappropriate behavior is replaced with character and integrity. Master’s Ranch gives boys a reason to succeed.
We have certified teachers on our personnel who provide instruction and one-on-one tutoring attention to the students. At Master’s Ranch, we accomplish both ends of the academic spectrum. The self-paced curriculum allows students who may be having difficulty with certain courses to master them and catch up. Advanced coursework and a college-prep programs are available for those who succeed academically and desire to get ahead.
Our boarding academy operates year-round, to keep students involved and to give them the chance to catch up or retake courses and improve their grade point average. During the summers we run a partial academic regimen to allow time for projects, sports and recreation.
After the boys are at the ranch for a time, they have a chance for work experience in the local economy. It allows them to exercise their new coping skills and to earn money to help them once they leave the ranch. Every dollar they earn is put into an account that they withdraw when they go home. The ranch itself also offers some industries for the boys young men to learn from, including handling the cattle, construction, pedigree dog breeding, and farming. The boys gain marketable skills and a self-confidence from these opportunities.
Students take part in daily devotions and weekly church services, so they have the chance to ask questions about life and experience a relationship with Jesus. We provide pastoral counseling and life-on-life mentorship and spiritual direction.
